I just read 4 chapters that make up the book of Jonah. The whole point of what God did through “making” Jonah go and warn them of their impending judgement was—–
To show his mercy on 120,000 children of the city and the animals. Both of these would be innocent victims of collateral damage through destruction of the city.
The guilty of the city had to repent and change their ways to save the children and animals. They did repent and saved all the lives of everyone. God gave them another chance at life through his mercy and forgiveness.
This is the “OLD TESTAMENT” version of
John 3:16. The mindset and attitude of Jonah is why I believe God found fault with the “OLD COVENANT”.
Jesus came on the scene when his people “HATED” THEIR ENEMIES”. Jesus said
to “LOVE YOUR ENEMIES AND DO GOOD TO THOSE WHO HATE YOU”.
Jesus is the mediator of “NEW COVENANT”.
A better covenant built on better promises.
He is looking for messengers of the “GOOD NEWS” of the kingdom of God who don’t need to be thrown overboard, swallowed by a fish, and vomited onto dry land!

DO THEY SPEAK HEALING WORDS AND PROMOTE LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER? OR ARE THEY DIVISIVE AND CONTENTIOUS IN THE WORDS THEY CHOOSE?

Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ,
As though God were pleading through us:
we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
